Who we are
Blind Luck is a fully licensed, and insured hunting guide service located primarily out of the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center in Nags Head, NC. We offer fully guided waterfowl hunts throughout the Outer Banks. Most of our hunts if not from OIFC leave from within 30 minutes of Nags Head.
We hunt from stationary box blinds, scissor rig and float rig, and even layout boats.
Our main targets are, bluebills (greater & lesser scaup), redheads, buffleheads, and sea ducks but we also have chances at pintails, teal, wigeon, black ducks, geese & swan (with permit), goldeneye, gadwall and mallards.
Who knows what we might see on any given hunt?
Our expertise in open water duck hunting ensures that all hunters, regardless of experience level, have a memorable experience. We pride ourselves on providing a safe and successful hunt.

We do not provide lodging but can have options for private stay and discounted hotel rooms.
We allow dogs with prior notice.
Dress appropriately for wind, cold and warm weather.
Waders not required but recommended.
50% deposit required at time of booking
Trips leave out of different locations throughout the Outer Banks of NC.
All departures are within approx. 30 minutes of Nags Head, NC.

- NC Hunting License with waterfowl privelege
- Federal Duck Stamp
- HIP Number
- All hunting apparel and shotguns are the responsibility of the hunter, including steel shot
- Swan Permit (must have applied and received tag from NCWRC)
- Safety First, all hunters are responsible for good boat and gun safety, we reserve the right to end any hunt at any time without refund if any requirements are not being followed
Tools of the Trade

The Rig: a 24 foot carolina skiff work boat with side console, up to date marine electronics, LED light bar, scissor rig and powered with a professionally maintained 200HP Suzuki Four Stroke Outboard.
Open layout including dry box seating and storage allows us to carry over 200 decoys, up to 4 hunters, and dog comfortably. The boat is easily trailerable from location to location and allows us to chase the ducks instead of being stuck in the same area.
"Scupper" is the newest addition to our operation, a male black lab who will be hunting full time with us full time starting in 2026. He is bred and trained by Country Road Retrievers of Richlands. NC.
The Blind Luck skiff is great for the shallow waters we hunt as well as the rougher open waters and is roomy and stable for float hunting. The boat features a removable custom aluminum davit for launching and retrieving layout boats.

Meet Capt. Mac Buben
Capt. Mac Buben, is a USCG Licensed guide in Kill Devil Hills, NC.
Mac brings a lifetime of experience on the water with time spent working in different aspects of the marine industry including charter fishing, marine construction, and commercial fishing.
During the busy summer season Mac owns and operates Sea Chef Dockside Kitchen at The Oregon Inlet Fishing Center. The restaurant operates as a themed "Duck Bar" during the hunting season and is a great place to unwind after hunts since many of them originate from the same marina.
